This policy covers ferkistudios.ca itself — the pages you are reading right now. Each of our games and apps has its own policy, listed on the privacy index; this one is about the website.

The short version: this site sets no cookies, shows no ads, and sends nothing to any third party. It does measure how the site is used, using our own self-hosted tools, and it stores two random identifiers on your device to do it. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, none of that happens at all.

What we store on your device

No cookies are used. Two random identifiers are kept in your browser's local storage:

• ferki.iid — an install identifier, kept until you clear your browser storage. It lets us tell a returning visitor from a new one. It is generated on your device, is not derived from your device, your network, or any account, and is not shared with anyone.
• ferki.sid — a session identifier, discarded as soon as you close the tab.

Neither is readable by any other site, and clearing your browser storage for this domain erases both.

What we measure

A short stream of events, each tagged with the two identifiers above, the site version, and a timestamp:

• Session start — your browser's language, without the region (en, not en-CA). Enough to decide whether translating the site is worth doing, and not precise enough to be a location signal.
• Page view — the path you opened (/winterloon/) and, if you followed a link here, the host of the page you came from (duckduckgo.com) — never the full referring URL.
• Page exit — how many seconds the page was open and how far down it you scrolled.
• Link clicks — only for links leaving the site to Google Play or sharecipe.ca, so we can tell whether a product page is doing its job.
• Errors — if a script on the page fails, its error message, so we can fix it. Capped at five per visit.

We also collect basic performance traces: how long the page took to load, and which element you clicked. These are tagged with the session identifier and the page path, and nothing else.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, names, or email addresses. There is no form on this site to type them into.
• No advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking. There is no third-party script on any page.
• No location, and no IP addresses in our analytics — events are not tagged with one, and this site's web server is configured to leave the client address out of its access logs.
• Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared. The data goes to our own self-hosted services, on our own infrastructure, and stays there.

How to switch it off

• Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, this site collects nothing: no events are queued, no traces are sent, and the two identifiers above are never written. GPC is built into some browsers and available as an extension for the rest; Do Not Track is usually under privacy settings.
• Block the script. Everything described here lives in a single file, /telemetry.js. Any content blocker that stops it leaves the rest of the site working exactly as it does now — nothing on these pages depends on it.
• Clear your storage. Clearing site data for ferkistudios.ca deletes both identifiers; your next visit looks like a first visit.

How long we keep it

Performance traces expire automatically after 72 hours. They are the short-lived half of this, and nothing keeps a copy.

Events are deleted after 180 days — the whole row, the identifiers with it. That runs on a schedule, not on someone remembering. For up to 14 days longer a deleted row may still sit inside a database backup, because backups are kept a fortnight before they roll off.

A daily count outlives them. Before events are deleted they are rolled into totals: on this day, this many page views, from this many distinct browsers. That is how we can still tell whether a year of work made anything better. The totals are counts — identifiers are counted and then thrown away, never stored — so what remains describes a day rather than a person, and we keep it.

What holds regardless: none of it is used to make a decision about an individual person, because it does not describe one. And you can have yours removed sooner — email us at the address below, and either send us the install identifier you had (copy it before clearing your storage) or just describe your visit, and we will delete what matches.

Children

The site collects the same minimal, anonymous data from everyone, and never uses it for advertising or profiling.

Changes

If we start collecting something not listed above, this page changes before that ships — not after.
